About this policy

This page explains data use on the Hooti website and in the iOS and Android apps. Hooti is for families; purchases, cloud sharing and usage analytics preferences are managed in the parent area.

Data is not used to build advertising profiles or show personalised advertising to children.

Information on your device

Your child’s name and selected avatar, programs, activities, notes, ratings, decisions, learned words and memories are stored in the app’s private device storage. Photos and drawings can be used in the memory book.

Account sessions are managed by Firebase Authentication. Session credentials are protected using iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. The parent PIN is stored as a hash on the server and is excluded from the cloud journal.

Ask Hooti and voice features

Questions sent to Hooti go to the Hooti server to produce an answer and check usage allowances. When cloud AI permission is off, a limited server-side knowledge collection is used. When permission is on, a question may be sent to the OpenAI API to generate an answer. Avoid including unnecessary personal information.

Voice input uses your device’s speech recognition service. If on-device processing is unavailable, the operating system provider may process speech online. The voice memory feature saves the reviewed transcript. Read-aloud features may use an online voice, depending on the installed engine and selected voice.

Parent-initiated cloud backup

Cloud backup starts when a parent chooses it. Programs, memories and preferences are stored on the Hooti server under the family account. Photos are uploaded to private media storage without location-bearing EXIF metadata.

Backups are private. Before changing devices, link your family account to Apple or Google and make a backup in the parent area. On the new device, sign in with the same account, enter the parent PIN and restore the backup.

Subscriptions and usage records

Apple App Store or Google Play takes payment. Hooti does not receive your payment card number. The server stores the product identifier, subscription period, verification time and store transaction information needed to link a purchase to an account.

Program, book and question operation identifiers are recorded to enforce free and periodic allowances. Google Play purchase tokens are encrypted on the server.

Optional usage analytics

Usage analytics are off by default and enabled by a parent. Event name, screen, time, session identifier and numeric interaction details may be recorded. These events do not include your child’s name, question or answer text, photos or voice recordings.

Analytics use pseudonymous identifiers linked to the family account; they are not claimed to be fully anonymous. Server analytics events are deleted after 90 days. You can turn analytics off in the parent area.

With parental permission, app analytics also include platform, language, app version, OS major version, API timings, error categories and OS-reported crash or hang counts. No stack traces or diagnostic payload contents are sent.

Retention and deletion

Programs and memories remain until deleted from the device or family account. Cloud copies of question answers retained for retries are cleared after 30 days; device chat history is separate. Usage allowance records may remain until account deletion to preserve limits.

Account deletion in the parent area deletes the server account, journal and associated records and clears records on that device. File cleanup can complete in the background. Local copies on other devices and copies you exported must be deleted separately. Cancelling a store subscription is a separate action.

Your choices and requests

The parent area lets you change sharing and analytics preferences, create a family backup and delete the account. Use the contact route on our support page for access, correction or deletion requests.

Hosting services and the answer provider you permit may process data outside your country. Applicable rights depend on where you live.
